Evaluate the response (D1 U21)

Learning outcome 3 (U21): Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions

D1 (U21): Discuss the client considerations for the creation of the product from the pitch

The feedback I am going to use to help improve my product is as follows:

I will change colour blue to white to make it more visible as the client said the blue is hard to see and does not fit in as well as white would. This is useful as it will help make the front cover easier to read and the target audience will be more likely to buy it. This also makes it relevant to the brief as the front cover reasserts the imagery of the magazine being related to the grime music scene in north London.

The client suggested moving the slogan from above the masthead to beneath it. This is conventional for magazine design and will make it is easy to see. I will be taking this piece of feedback on board. It is useful as it is what the audience expect to see. This is good as when the magazine is advertised on the internet and social media the target audience will most likely see it and read the slogan showing them that the magazine is perfect for their generation. My target audience is primarily male teenagers, from 14-21, so having a strong slogan is important because it will help them to relate to the magazine. The slogan, A fresh and new look at the new and old school grime scene, suggests that the magazine will be at the forefront of the scene, and that it will be a lively read. This is in line with the brief, which calls for a magazine about a "vibrant music scene". Therefore, having this in the slogan will fulfil the requirements of the brief.

Another comment the client stated was to make name of the writer smaller in the double page spread as it is not conventional to take up that much space and is meant to take up less space. This will also free up more space for the central image and other parts of the front cover. I will be taking this piece of feedback on board, because I want the magazine to celebrate the artists rather than the writers. Q2T are a growing act on the grime scene, so I want to make sure I highlight this.

The client also suggested changing the image on the front cover as the current image does not connote grime. The image I had was a shadow of a person and the client said this would not help the audience identify the genre of the magazine. The client also said that the main image is the most important part of the cover and must tell the buyer what the magazine is. This is useful as the first thing the reader will see is the image and it must connote grime music. I had only used a silhouette for the main image because I wanted to block out the page to see how the layout would work. I had never actually intended to use a silhouette in the final version. i learnt from this that the client will go through the pitch in great detail, so having all the components as fully realised as possible is important, because it should give the client a clear idea of the final form the magazine will take.if I were to pitch in the future for another magazine, I would take a selection of my own photos beforehand to simulate how the final product would appear.

The client liked the font style I chose and so I will continue to use Impact on the front cover for subheadings as it is a bold, strong font that connotes the masculinity of grime music. It is also a simple font that is easy to read. This is useful because it will make the front cover easier and clear so people can clearly understand what they are purchasing. As the brief states to make a music magazine, by doing this it will make it easier to see that this magazine is that.

The client stated that they liked the layout overall. However, I am intending to make some changes to the overall layout, using an image for the background of the front cover rather than a simple backdrop. I am doing this because I want to reinforce the urban nature of grime music. In spite of the positive feedback, there are still some improvements such as this that I will make in the final product.
