Purpose
- the purpose of my magazine is to inform the audience on the grime scene news. Such as the fashion that is in along with the best new songs, albums and artists. Another purpose is to entertain the audience an example is the reader will read the magazine to be entertained and pass the time and find out more about this genre of music they like. education is also a purpose as it will aim to educate the reader on the grime scene and help give them a better understanding and more knowledge on this genre. Some audiences will read this magazine for escapism a they are living in a rough environment and they see the grime music and the magazine as a way to escape these problems and forget their worries.
Name of magazine
Grim3z. I chose this name because i feel it portrays the grime genre and is in a way that the audience will be attracted to as it is slang by using a 3 giving a connection to the primary audience of that males aged 15-25 as it is likely they will speak and text in slang like this the use of the word being like grime helps to further show the Genre is grime this will work hand in hand with the font.
Form
- The form will include a hard copy and a online copy. the online copy will include a website for this magazine whereas the hard copy will have a front cover and a double page spread. The front cover will have a bold masthead to show the importance there will also be images on the front cover to attract the audience eye. The double page spread will have a interview with some ads and some images this will give the reader and idea of the identity the magazine has.
Genre
- The genre i am choosing is grime. Grime is a genre of electronic dance music that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of earlier UK electronic music styles, including UK garage and jungle, and draws influence from dancehall, reggae and hip hop. it has recently become popular and more mainstream with a large audience.I chose this genre because i feel grime is an up and coming genre in north London with the capability to gain a large readership.
Content
- in the magazine there will be ads for other brands to help fund the magazine these will be brands that target the primary audience such as nike or adidas. There will also be a Q&A of a famous Grime artist next to that on the double page spread there will be advice and tips on the new and best artists as this is an artist based magazine. There will be competitions to help boost the inclusivity of the magazine and give the audience chances to win prizes. Seeing as one of the purposes of the magazine is to inform there will be a section on the news of the grime scene.
Font choices
The fonts i am using are
-
I will use the 3rd one for the masthead because it is bold and will catch the readers eye it also shows the feel and portrays the genre of the magazine. i will use the 2nd one to show the name of the artist being interviewed as it is eye catching and bold but also easy to read as it will be the firs thing the reader reads when they open up the magazine to the double page spread. i will use the first font as the font of the main part of the magazine and the articles this is because it is clear and bold so even when smaller than the other two it is still easy to read.
Target audience
- Men aged 15-25 (primary) (black people) stereotypically Working class
- Men aged 25-40 (secondary)
- Females 15-25 (third)
The audience that views this is going to be attracted by things that they can relate with so to get the target audience interested we need to make the magazine relevant to them examples will be brands that they wear e.g. stone island and music that they listen to and artists. In order to sell it to them you need to entice them we aim to do this by free subscription to music services for a certain amount of time

The target audience are usually from B, C1 backgrounds on the socio economic scale coming from middle class areas such as Barnet, Hampstead and Golders Green. They will listen to artists such as Stormzy and Skepta as they find these artists inspiring and 'cool'. They will be explorers and aspirers because they are exploring a type of music and culture that is not from their backgrounds and they believe listening to it gives them status. They are also aspirers because they have dreams of emulating their idols.
Sketch layouts
These layouts are conventional to music magazines having a mast head with a strap line at the bottom. There are also cover lines on the sides, with a puff. They all convey magazines with a barcode and price in the bottom corner. There is also an image in the centre to convey what is the genre of the magazine. In the double page spread there is an article with a large image taking up most of the page as this is conventional. the image is the main interest of this. There will also be a large title to convey what is going to be on the double page spread
Moodboard

The mood-board is grime because the people in it are big names in the grime scene and you can tell this is grime because of what they are wearing and the settings such as tracksuits and in council estates there are the places grime was founded. The colours used are black and dark blue these are colours that are usually associated with grime as they are dark because they are seen as masculine colours. The body language used also connotes grime as they stand laid back, relaxed in some images, to show their confidence, and in others, they look aggressive and serious. The clothing is also consistent with grime, as most artists are wearing tracksuits, hoodies, face coverings, sunglasses and trainers that often are branded, which connotes that they are from tough, working class backgrounds. The settings used are usually council estates and urban settings, like youth cubs, brick walls, sports courts and studios as they are the areas where this genre of music was founded.
Resources and personnel
Direct competition
- The magazine is in direct competition with north london based grime artist based magazines such as Clash to challenge these magazines we have a USP that is going to make gr3mz stand out from the other magazines on the market. This magazine costs £7.99, which is far more expensive than ours which is £4 monthly. Apart from this magazine there are no others that are in direct competition, however a lot of the content we intend to cover is accessible online. As content is spread across many online platforms, this will be our main competition. With this in mind, this is why we have a USP for our target audience.
Price
The price of my magazine is £4 it is this price as it is cheaper than our competition and easily affordable by many people from all backgrounds and classes, As the main purpose of this magazine is not just to make money but provide fair priced entertainment to people of all age, class, gender, race and ethnicity. There is a subscription offer of a years magazines so thats 12 all for £44
Distribution and marketing methods
My magazine will be distributed in lots of ways. It will have hard copies available to buy in shops such as WHSmiths. The target audience is going to be in full time education so therefore they will be likely to go to WHSmith for school supplies. But as well as that there will be a website where people can view the magazine after the paywall. as most of the target audience will not go into shops and purchase it online. The magazine will also be available to purchase with a subscription where people get a years magazines for a set price.
The magazine will include ads for other brands to help fund the magazine these will be brands that target the primary audience such as nike or adidas which are popular with my target audience.
To promote the magazine there will be ads for the magazine. We will aim to get to the right age demographic by putting it on a platform that is accessible to people on social media where most of the primary audience will see it. The magazine will be marketed by being handed out around camden market as that is a north London area where the music scene is vibrant and once the magazine starts to grow in popularity it will be sold in stores such as WHSmiths in branches in north London especially in areas where the music scene is popular and vibrant such as Brent cross

Colour palate

I choose these colour because they are connoted with Grime as it has dark connotations such as red which is connoted with violence and anger and these are associated with grime. Black is also used because that is associated with night and darkness which are areas that people connote with grime. Blue is used because it connotes trust and loyalty which is all connoted with grime as it is about a bunch of people coming together to make art and they are usually very loyal to each other as they have grown up together in the same areas.
