Client Feedback
The client suggested various areas I could improve on, as outlined below:
Change colour blue to white to make it more visible as blue is hard to see and does not fit in as well as white would - From this I understand the writing on the front cover is important as it is these few sentences that will help to sell the magazine, especially to the target audience. As they are younger they will be more likely to pick up the magazine that stands out and is visually appealing to them.
Move the slogan under the masthead so it is easy to see and can be seen in a snapshot - My understanding is that the slogan is important therefore it must be easily visible as the slogan helps present the idea of the magazine being new and fresh for target audience as that is what they are looking for as they will only want to read things that are new as that is what appeals to them. As this is a new magazine, I understood from the feedback that branding is really important. My target audience will need to have a strong brand so that they will instantly recognise the magazine from month to month on newsagents' shelves.
Make the name of the writer on the double page spread smaller as it is not meant to take up much room - My understanding of this is that by having the article writer's name in such a large font at the bottom of the page, I will be taking the focus away from the name of the artist covered. In most music magazines, the name of the article writer is generally quite small. Therefore, in order to fit in with the codes and conventions of other magazines and to give my artists a voice it is important that I don't take the focus away.
Change image on front cover as the current image does not connote grime - my understanding of this is that the image of the the main image is the first thing the audience see so it is important it is a good image. The client brief asks for you to make a music magazine relevant to north London so the most important part of this image as that will connote to the target audience that this is a Grime Music magazine
Use the Impact font on front cover for subheadings as it is a good simple font that is very effective in giving information. It is clear and easy to read - My understanding of this is that the front cover is intended to sell the magazine to the audience, therefore the cover needs to be clear and easy to read and short and sharp as the target audience will be younger and will want to read less therefore it needs to be short but in a good font and clear to read.
